I love the start of a new year almost as much as I love science. I shake off any January blues by getting turtley excited about all the adventures I’m going to have in the next twelve months with my open access friends.
I’m not a fan of New Year resolutions as they usually only last a few weeks (come on, I’m just being honest!). I prefer to write a list of all the fun things I wanna do during the whole year – some of these will need the help of my Facebook friends. So, if you play in a band, own a helicopter or are friendly with Stephen Hawking bring me along and post a pic to Facebook. That is assuming we’re already friends on Facebook and why shouldn’t we be? I’m a friendly kind of guy!
Here’s my 2011 wish list. I’ve already visited the pyramids in Egypt with a buddy of mine, anyone up for helping me tick another box?

- Create a turtle-science rap
- Write a piece for a magazine
- Get a photograph of myself with a Science celebrity
- Wear even more new costumes
- Become the most popular turtle on Facebook
- Appear on TV
- Do a parachute jump
- Meet a Nobel Prize winner
- Visit 10 new universities
- Play an instrument in a band
- Star in a film
- Visit a Natural Wonder of the World 
As part of my Science Communication MSc we are making a film trailer incorporating all different sorts of science philosophy, ethics, publishing and media. I am sure that we could find a role for Gulliver, would he be available to attend a casting call?!
